Learn to Live Lean Not Large

My first post was very low risk and conservative from both an investment standpoint as well as a blogging perspective. It was intentional on both fronts. I will now begin revealing my personal beliefs, as they relate to personal finance, business and lifestyle choices. I will in essence begin to raise the bar and take on additional risk along the way. My hope is to motivate and educate all readers who happen upon this site, and I encourage your candid feedback, wisdom, and engagement. Now on to my next post:

Oh! Keen to actually alter the outdated look for my personal business. Insights regarding the whole style at https://lilyspeech.com? Certainly a gorgeous free voice recognition software service whenever required within the Ontario region. Leave your vote. Appreciated!

Think about how much time you spend each day, week, month, and year; shopping for new stuff, maintaining your stuff, moving your stuff from here to there, cleaning your stuff, financing your stuff, worrying about your stuff getting stolen, broken or burned, insuring your stuff, and eventually selling your stuff. Wow, that's a lot of stuff to think about, huh? Maybe it's because WE ALL HAVE TO MUCH STUFF!

Thats right, we have stuff everywhere, cluttering our homes, our minds and totally consuming our time, making us live paycheck to paycheck and preventing us from ever realizing true financial freedom. We are slaves to our stuff, working so hard at jobs we despise and wondering why we never get ahead. Our Country is basically broke, along with our cities, counties, and states, as well as the majority of households, yet we continue to spend like we have it.

Well then let me be the first to say you don't have it! But don't sweat it, because you don't need it! You don't need to live in a bigger home, drive a brand new car, buy the latest electronic gadget, go on expensive vacations to escape your stressed out, overwhelmed, and mundane life.

I know, I know, I'm just no fun. You work hard and you deserve it, right? You need a bigger house, reliable transportation, and to recharge your batteries. Yeah, I've heard it all before, but you know what you really need?

  • You need to live a less stressful life.
  • You need to feel mentally and physically healthy.
  • You need to have more time with friends and family.
  • You need to free your mind and refocus your life on following your passion and fulfilling your lifes purpose.
  • You need to enjoy financial freedom, and you need to get there as quick as possible.

Yeah, you want all that too, right? Well, you don't get there by cramming your oversized house with two cars and a bunch of unnecessary toys. Sure it takes sacrifice, learning to live a different way than your neighbors, friends, and family, and it may make you a bit less popular in the short term, but in the long run it will be well worth it.

Living lean is nothing new; it doesn't require a whole lot of explanation or expensive training. Its all about you finding a way to live without, in order to free your time, mind and money for a more meaningful and prosperous life. Also, it's not a one size fits all concept; it can mean different things to different people. It could mean living on a self sufficient farm; planting gardens, fishing and raising chickens. It could mean not owning a home at all and living on the move, or with friends and family. To others, including myself, it means eliminating wasteful spending on clutter and distractions which drain our time and energy. In essence, you have the choice to determine what lean living means to you. It may take some creativity, but anything is possible if you're determined to succeed.

I won't tell you how to live your life, it won't work anyways. Much like I can't tell a criminal not to steal or an alcoholic to stop drinking; the only person who can change you, is you, which all starts with the desire to live a more socially responsible, rewarding and fulfilling life. One that does not allow you to feel envy or jealously for what you're living without and your neighbors are living with. One that makes you feel proud and appreciates the feeling that you're doing things a little different, and happy in knowing that freedom will be your ultimate reward.

Dont worry if you think I'm suggesting a boring life absent of joy and excitement. In fact, what I'm suggesting is quite the opposite. Dont think you'll be socking away a bunch of cash and going to the grave with a big bank account and no enjoyment during your lifetime. You will in fact be spending money, or what I should say is investing money, but only where the return is adequate either financially, intellectually, or through lifetime enrichment. Just think of the possibilities:

  • Ever wanted to change careers, but just couldn't afford it?
  • Ever wanted to start your own business, but just didn't have the resources?
  • Ever thought about going back to school to further your education and advance your career?
  • Ever had to pass up on an opportunity to purchase a great business or piece of real estate at a price you thought was too good to be true?
  • Ever have a burning desire to donate money to a charity or person in need?

I have no doubt you've thought of one or all of these at one point in your life, and if you havent, trust me when I say, one day you will. So what I am suggesting is for you to live a certain way now that will one day afford you the opportunity to allocate your resources more effectively in order to enhance your life and allow you to fulfill your dreams.

One thing you'll learn about me is I am a HUGE advocate of entrepreneurialism. Owning your own business offers multiple benefits: opportunities to grow both personally and professionally, ability to enjoy flexibility, control and creativity, along with the potential of earning a significantly higher than average return on investment. I will be writing a lot about business ownership in future posts.

But for now, I challenge you to start taking the steps necessary to de-clutter your life and evaluate your priorities. Begin by selling or tossing anything not adding value to your life, basically the items that just take up space and collect dust. As you purge your old stale belongings allow the joy to sink in with the knowledge that you are taking control of your space along with your finances once and for all.

Then I challenge you to re-evaluate your life, the choices you've made in the past, and the choices you plan to make in the future. Dont be ruled by consumerism, it will only leave you broke and enslaved to your current situation. Imagine a future where you are in complete control, where you have the financial resources to do as you please and the time, focus and energy to truly enjoy the essence of life. This is the end result of truly lean living and it's in everyones power to achieve.
